Description	View of Powelton Baptist Church in Sparta, Georgia, ca. 1971. First named Powelton Creek Church, it was constituted on July 1, 1786 with 26 members by the Reverends Silas Mercer, John Harvey, and John Thomas. The General Committee of the Georgia Baptists were organized here in 1803.
